There are few online learning programs in the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), the only district in Washington, DC. The DC school district provides technology infrastructure and teacher training to support and encourage blended learning approaches, the combination of face-to-face instruction with digital content and technology integration. There is one fully online charter school, Friendship PCS Online, that enrolls DC students in grades K-8. The DCPS is the only school district within Washington, DC.

While the district does not offer supplemental online classes to its students, many high schools offer core classes in a blended format, primarily to be taken as credit recovery. The curriculum is delivered online, but students may be required to meet with the teacher or attend a class period one or two times a week.

District Policies

No major legislation impacting online and/or blended learning was passed January through August 2022.
