Starting an Online/Hybrid School or Program

A Year-Long, Facilitated Network for districts seeking to start an online or hybrid program for SY 2021-22

Is your district planning to start an online or hybrid school/program for school year 2021-22? If so, the Digital Learning Collaborative can help. We are planning a year-long, facilitated cohort of districts working together to plan, implement, and build on your goals for your students.

Topics will include:

  • Setting goals and objectives for your school or program

  • Deciding between online and hybrid

  • Hiring, developing, and supporting teachers

  • Content acquisition: build vs buy vs both

  • Student support

  • Learning management systems and other platforms

  • Budget and finance

  • Operations and district policies

  • Special student populations

  • Evaluation

Process:

This will be a year-long project that is built around regular, facilitated, real-time discussions, augmented by online discussions, and using the DLC’s Planning Guides.

  • Each district designates between one and five people who are involved in discussions. We strongly recommend that the district designate a lead representative.

  • Each call will focus on a specific topic, with key ideas and issues presented by DLC facilitators and invited experts.

  • Online discussion prompts will present major strategic ideas and decision points.

  • In between most calls, facilitators will provide prompts (such as “what are your district’s goals) and feedback to documents and discussions.

  • Our goal is to have engaged participating districts launch an online or hybrid school in fall or winter 2021.

Timing

  • The project will launch with a first meeting in mid-January 2021

  • “Assignments” will be given in between meetings and participants can network throughout the twelve months and beyond. 

Fees

Districts joining the project pay $12,000 for the year in two installments.

Discounts are available for multiple districts joining together from within one state, as follows:

  • 3-5 districts joining together receive a 5% discount

  • 6-8 districts joining together receive a 10% discount

  • For a group of 9+ districts from the same state, we have the option to extend a discount and establish a state-specific cohort. Please email us to discuss additional options.
